Is it normal to be nervous about going to a gay club for the first time?

I've recently come out to quite a few of my friends and the ones who are supportive said, "Don't worry once you're comfortable with being gay, we'll take you to a gay club." And the idea just made me freeze. A gay club?? I'd feel so incredibly uncomfortable there! With those flamboyant gays and the drag queens.. but I do know I can't generalize and I have to at least try it out but the thought really scares me. Is it normal to feel this way?
